Do you look at magazines and see beautiful women with long lashes? Or are you envious that your son has lengthy lashes that have apparently skipped a generation? You too can have long lashes when you take the right steps. Let a makeup artist from All Dolled Up explain how.

Wash Off Your Makeup Nightly

While your eyelashes continuously fall out and regrow, this is a natural process. Clumped up mascara can easily cause your eyelashes to fall out prematurely.

If you’re not taking your makeup off, you could be causing your eyelashes to not grow to their full potential. You might also have thinner-than-average eyelashes that don’t look very full and luscious.

Ideally, to remove eye makeup, you should either use a solution or wipe specially made for makeup removal or apply an eye-safe oil, such as olive oil, baby oil, or coconut oil, to your lashes.

Don’t Rub Your Eyes

If you’re an allergy sufferer, you know how difficult it can be not to rub your eyes. This habit can cause your eyelashes to fall out when you’re rubbing vigorously, though. Plus, eye rubbing can contribute to wrinkling around your eyes.

Try to catch yourself whenever you start rubbing your eyes when you’re tired. During allergy season, use some sort of treatment to manage your allergy symptoms, whether it’s local honey, a medication, or eyedrops. Your eyelashes will thank you.

Eat a Well-Balanced Diet

Just like the hair on your head, your eyelashes need certain vitamins and minerals to grow strong. Without these nutrients, your eyelashes either won’t grow or will be brittle and break easily.

For example, biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a nutrient necessary for hair growth. Specifically, this vitamin is an enzyme necessary for your body to break down carbohydrates, fats, and fatty acids. In terms of hair growth, it’s needed for strengthening the hair follicles. When you have strong hair follicles, they’re able to allow the hair to grow and provide adequate support so the hair doesn’t fall out prematurely. Additionally, your hair requires nutrients like fatty acids for the hair to grow strong.

If you’re worried your diet isn’t meeting your nutritional needs, consider a supplement.

Minimize the Use of False Lashes

Don’t get us wrong, we see clients all the time with false lashes, and it’s fine to use them for special occasions. However, besides when you get your prom or wedding hair and makeup or other special event makeup, false lashes should be avoided. They can damage your natural lashes.

Lash extensions may cause the natural lash to break off, which will cause temporary damage. On the other hand, sometimes, the damage is permanent because it harms the hair follicles. Your lashes then can’t regrow.

Consider Eyelash Growth Serums

As a wedding makeup artist, we do have our favorites, but we won’t promote any brands on our site. Instead, we advise you to look for a serum with positive reviews that include consumers who noticed a difference in the length or thickness of their lashes.

As a general rule, you should avoid serums that have hormone disruptors or carcinogens. Instead of researching all the chemicals that are known to cause cancer or interfere with hormones, choose one that’s all natural and free of chemicals.

Various serums claim to use potent ingredients that can grow your lashes immensely in a matter of days, but the active ingredients aren’t always backed by science. Some proven ingredients include melatonin, adenosine, and copper.
