The 90s was a time of big hair, leggings with oversized sweaters, white keds, and flannel. Grunge was all the rage. It was also a time when makeup was quite eccentric as well. So whether you’re young and have only seen photographs from the 90s or this post will take you back to your youth, we’d like to take a moment to travel back in the 90s.
All Dolled Up provides wedding hair and makeup and can recreate any of the styles from the 90s for various special occasions. A makeup artist with All Dolled Up can even update the look a bit so it’s more in line with today’s styles.
Shimmer
Women back then were shimmering from head to toe, well at least the top of their heads to their lips. The 90s was truly about sparkle and bedazzle, as celebrities graced the front page of magazines with sparkly eyeshadow and lip gloss.
Pastel Eyeshadow
Pastel eyeshadow was all the rage in the 90s. From lavenders and greens to blues and pinks, Easter-egg colors were hot at that time. Often, these looks were matched with neutral colors to provide contrast. We should mention that these colors are always a hit, even to this day, when you want to feel cute and fun.
Brick Lip
She has a brick lip, it’s mighty, mighty. We’re sorry for being corny there, but it was just such a perfect moment. Anyways, a brick lip was in style in the 90s. It was a style not only made famous on the red carpet and runways but also in grunge music videos and concerts. This was a bit of a play on the classic red lip, only instead of a bright red, it was more of a combination of brown and red. Often, it was accented with a bit of liner.
Spider Lashes
Spider lashes consist of black mascara heavily done on both the top and bottom lashes. The idea was to make both your top and bottom lashes look like you’re wearing fake lashes.
You finish the look off with a heavy, cream eyeliner on both the top and bottom lids. Often, especially with grunge being so fashionable at the time, the eyeliner was a bit smudged.
Blue
If you were between 13 and 40 during the 90s, chances are you wore bright blue eyeshadow at some point. For this look, the eyeshadow was usually on the lids, extending almost to or to the eyebrow.
Gloss and Lip Liner
Natural lip shades were definitely popular during the 90s. Then, women would add a clear coat of gloss. They finished this look off with a lip liner that was several shades darker than their lips.
Dark Lipstick
As previously noted, grunge was chic in the 90s. The dark lip was one way to incorporate the grunge look into your style. Typically, with this look, women would apply a dark burgundy or brown lipstick without any liner or possibly a liner the same color as their lipstick.
Thin Eyeliner
Many women find accenting their eyes as the most important part of their makeup. Often, they’ll apply thick eyeliner to ensure their eyes take center stage. However, the thin eyeliner look was quite the fad during this decade. It consists of a thin layer of eyeliner being applied on both the top and bottom lids.
Although we didn’t mention every makeup trend in the 90s, we made note of some of the most popular looks. We hope you enjoyed this blast from the past. And if you want any of these looks or another, we can provide it. We can even put a unique spin on these looks and make them a bit more modern if you’re looking for special occasion makeup, such as wedding hair and makeup.
